The worlds of art and movement have met before, many times and in many forms. From art cars, to art planes and of course art bikes, to stand out amongst the greats and push forward takes something different. Something distinct. Something with narrative, purpose and daring.

The world of Flying Flea vows to create a space for creatives, dreamers and enthusiasts to not only meet but to converse and collaborate, and therefore a Flying Flea take on an art piece born from two wheels must share this vision.

Enter Mattia Biagi. The Italian born, Los Angeles based multidisciplinary artist creates works as varied in their form as their vision, not confined to certain materials or avenues of expression. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he had long held a dream to create something special from his passion.

Today, Flying Flea and Mattia Biagi unveil their groundbreaking collaboration at Salone Del Mobile, Milan. The unique art piece, dubbed Motototem, represents not only a landmark in art and mobility, but celebrates the spirit of creativity, innovation and sustainability that runs deep within the Flying Flea brand.

Created in collaboration with Mattia and Flying Flea, each material chosen has a purpose beyond just aesthetics but connecting the motorcycle to nature in elegant, beautiful fashion.

TIMELESS SILHOUETTE

Retaining the timeless silhouette of the Flying Flea FF.C6, the intricate details found throughout Motototem each play a part in the story. Starting at the front, the original handlebar grips are replaced with unique bronze pieces conveying the artist’s fingerprint - this is also carried into the footpegs, heightening the tactile elements already present in the FF.C6.

HAND-BLOWN GLASS

Where once an LED head and tail light was found, there are now intricate hand-blown glass sculptures, the high temperatures and delicate production process of which represents the beauty found in overcoming challenges.

TRAVERTINE ART

Moving to the tank, still sunk within the forged aluminum frame as in the FF.C6, this hand-crafted piece is made entirely of travertine. This stone is traditionally found around mineral springs, offering a distinctive texture, sculpted to emulate the flowing contours of a parachute, paying tribute to the original Flying Flea.

ORGANIC SHAPES AND HUES

The front and rear mudguards are imbued with the same depth of storytelling, featuring leaves cast in clear resin to symbolise new life, growth and renewal. The rear piece incorporates a natural seat. Also found acting as a belt guard at the rear, these organic shapes and hues represent the sprouting of new ideas like flowers.

Embellishing the FF.C6’s magnesium battery case, itself an exercise in organic design with its fins representing a seamless meeting of past and future, a black stone piece speaks to the design principle of utilising raw materials as with the forged aluminium frame.

Rounding out this journey are the tyres, emblazoned with hand-made leather swallows to represent homecoming, loyalty and the spirit of adventure. The use of off-road tyres is no accident, but to emphasise a bold journey into uncharted paths.

Following its unveiling at Salone Del Mobile 2025 alongside the finest designers and installations in the world, Motototem will travel the world at soon to be announced events and venues to continue sparking conversations.
